November Shoot Report
Things are looking up as turn-out for the November shoot more than doubled. Tom and Dan were joined this month by Mike R., Keith and our new probationary member Pete Cortopassi. Pete wasn’t able to finish as he had a problem with his fletching coming off. Keith put up a dollar for the handicap shoot which will be returned to him, because he has not yet established a handicap. Of course, anyone willing to shoot with zero handicap is welcome. I pasted a few 5-spot targets for Sundays shoot, however, if you are more comfortable shooting the single-spot target feel free to do so. Tom was going to take some of the 5-spot targets home and paste them for next month’s shoot. I can’t make the December shoot…so leave your score cards in the clubhouse and I will pick them up and report the results in the next newsletter. Good luck at the December shoot! BO-ARRO NEWS NOVEMBER 2008 From the Editor...
Almost every Monday evening, since the beginning of the year, Betsy and I have been bringing our three sons out to the club for weekly practice. Hector, José, and Alejandro meet us there. Hector offers a lot of encouragement to all of the boys, and by his instruction, their shooting has improved. Recently, our Monday night practices have been more fun when Pete Cortopassi brings his sons Anthony, Kevin, and Vince for some shooting. Sometimes, when all the boys show up, we have eight youngsters at the line. They really enjoy themselves! I’ve heard from a couple of other members that they have friends who might be interested in joining the Bo-Arro Hunters Club. It is good to hear that, and if those men and women (and families) decide they want to be part of a good thing, we’ll welcome them. When trying to build the membership for the Bo-Arro Hunters Club, everyone knows that “word-of-mouth” is the best way we can introduce ourselves to the public. If we let our friends know about what we do, I think we’ll see more new faces in 2009. Bo-Arro Hunters Club Recording Secretary’s Report Editor’s Note: On Sunday, November 2nd, Rich (our Recording Secretary) was not present for the meeting. I took the notes in his absence. NOVEMBER 2, 2008 Meeting outside the Indoor Range at Union ATTENDEES: Keith, Mike R., Joe, Dan, Tom, Hector, Dom, Phil, Mike S., Pete Cortopassi, Sue Cortopassi There was no old business discussed. Keith recognized Pete and Sue Cortopassi of Lake In The Hills. Pete and Sue paid the probationary fees of new members, and they are looking forward to enjoying the club’s activities with their three sons. Dan reported there were four shooters in the 300-Round Shoot that morning. Keith informed the members that the club will be insured again on January 1. It was noted that the refrigerator/freezer at the indoor range needs to be replaced. All members were asked to be on the lookout for a good used one. Phil suggested using a donation box to collect money for the purchase of the replacement. Tom V. showed some large illustrations of different dinosaurs on poster board. He asked if the members would be interested in a Dinosaur Shoot. It was suggested that the club could make plans for this novelty event on February 1, after the monthly 300-Round Shoot. 50/50 Raffle: $33.00 ($16.50) was won by Sue Cortopassi. Keith reminded members that the club will be setting the 2009 calendar at the January meeting. Pumpkin Pie, Anyone? A few days after Halloween, some of the young archers met at the indoor range for their weekly practice. José, Alejandro, Andrew and Trevor had fun when a leftover pumpkin was supplied as a target. The boys did their best to destroy the big, orange gourd. The pumpkin took a lot of hits, but it was able to withstand almost all of the arrows that went through it. |
